Paul’s Hill Wind Farm, Moray, Scotland

Project Description

AGEC was engaged by The Natural Power Consultants Ltd. working on behalf of Paul’s Hill Wind Ltd to undertake a due diligence appraisal of the proposed wind farm site with respect to potential for large-scale peat failure.

Paul’s Hill wind farm is located in the Moray region of Scotland, about 23km southwest of Elgin on an upland area approximately 5km to the northwest of the River Spey, and within its catchment.

AGEC undertook the following work as part of the due diligence appraisal in order to assess the potential for peat failure at the proposed Paul’s Hill site:

  • A desk study of relevant geotechnical and design information contained within the Environmental Statement, peat depth map andother reports completed by independent contractors
  • A preliminary walkover survey of site to identify geomorphological features, rock exposures, wetland areas, soil/rocktypes along access tracks/turbine bases, water crossings.
  • A review of geo-hydrology data with subsequent reporting.
  • A subsequent report with a series of recommendations for construction practises including geotechnical and hydrological monitoring, site reporting procedures, appropriate drainage and discharge measures.
